These peaks are continual training ground and repeat hikes for me although I try to add in new-to-me routes when I can to enjoy the mountains from another perspective.

Mayflower Gulch Trailhead is easily accessible year round with approaches to several peaks and routes. I came up to do a hot lap for training and beta on August 19 then returned September 12 to climb Drift after a recent snow storm. In between those visits one of those storms took down what I estimated to be over 20 trees along the road blocking passage to the mine. This factor added significant time to that leg of road each way having to hop over downed trees to and from the mine.

Several larger uprooted trees and a collection of deadfall warranted a shared conditions report that I put on 14ers.com after this trip. Fortunately they cleared the road shortly after the incident and before the first snowfall.

Drift is a good training peak as is Atlantic, Pacific and Crystal to name a few. The paved trailhead provides worryless access regardless of season with a short approach to each peak in the area. Good for team outings, solo jaunts and technical classics like the Drift and Fletcher traverse, Mayflower Gulch tauts it all.

Another wonderful day in the mountains enjoying new-to-me routes and repeats!
