I set out on a weekday to climb Buckskin and Loveland solo. The decalibron trailhead gets quite busy, weekday or not, but I was happy to be going the opposite way.

Solo

This was a solo weekday climb of Buckskin and over to Loveland. The decalibron trailhead is busy, weekday or not, but I was heading the opposite direction skipping the popular 14ers.

‍ The grassy approach is mild and eventually you cross the stream and willows to gain the shoulder. I was a little off trail, there isn’t a trail really, and chose to climb directly up the shoulder to gain the ridge.

The ridge to Buckskin was straightforward as was the jaunt over to Loveland from Buckskin. A superb Gerry Roach Extra Credit!

Alma is a special place that often gets overlooked, especially considering Breckenridge sits directly across the pass. One of my first appreciations for Alma was the locals and their no corporation attitude, leave that in Breckenridge. I'm sure as the years go by we will see this tiny gem get over developed as we have seen in other Colorado mountain towns, but I hope it stays quiet and quaint for years to come.

If you swing through, definitely make a pitstop at the only bar in Alma. Local legends, the town pup that once got lost on the 14ers and made it home. Good people, food and drink.
