Mosquito

I had been eyeing this route for some time and really wanted to do it as a winter ridge run, but we ended up going for it with our pup on a summer weekend instead. I'll be back to climb them in winter.

These peaks and this combo route was on my list for some time. Originally I wanted to wait and hike it as a winter ridge run, but it was the perfect option for a family outing this particular weekend. We brought our pup for a fun summer loop instead!

The approach into the basin is super mellow and straightforward if you follow the road. Unlike an attempt we actually made one year with snow when we got lost in the willows before calling it a day from postholing too much.

The ridge connecting the peaks is a great route with views all around. We ditched all the crowds near the lake and only encountered a couple other parties all day.

The pup scratched her paws some so she got carried out in the backpack and over our shoulders but still enjoyed the day!

If you stop in Breckenridge, check out Broken Compass Brewing or Outer Range in Frisco.

Grab food from one of these places: Coffee at Cuppa Joe, tacos and awesome margaritas from Rita's Tacos, sandwiches from Duggan's or Cabin Coffee Co.
