My friend, Louis, led this trip, Crystal Peak A, as his Leader in Training (LIT) for the Colorado Mountain Club. After a month break from our trip to Mexico, in November we all met up to climb this classic Colorado Centennial.

A friend was leading a trip up Crystal Peak A in November of 2017 as a Leader in Training hike for the CMC. After almost a month break from a trip to Mexico I was ready to get back out to climb some mountains.

Crystal Peak A is a classic centennial meaning one of the top 100 highest peaks in Colorado at 13,852 feet. I had originally planned to climb this mountain in 2016, but a turn of events prevented that attempt.

We had a great weather window and enjoyed a bluebird day. The group moved at a good pace and we had a great group. On the summit we met two of our instructors and mentors who would be teaching our High Altitude Mountaineering Course the following year. Always fun running into someone you know in the mountains, like literally on the mountain.

It was a wonderful day with great company all around!‍

If you're new to Colorado or looking for recommended places to stop when passing through Idaho Springs, check out these local spots.

Be sure to stop for a post-hike beverage and snack at Westbound and Down.

Or spend time exploring the mines, hot springs, or shops around town. Check Idaho Springs official page.
