Edwards + McClellan

Edwards + McClellan East Slopes

Front Range

The approach is pretty easy, wrapping back into the basin before you gain the saddle. We opted for a direct snow climb up the shoulder versus the saddle approach. We hiked up McClellan first and then took the ridge over to Edwards.

Edwards and McClellan caught my eye in Gerry Roach’s book with the extra credit route. An appealing route with few people encountered aside from off roaders near the mine.

The approach from this side is easy winding back into the basin before you gani the saddle. We took a direct snow climb up the shoulder instead of the saddle approach. First we hiked up and over to McClellan and then toko the ridge from the saddle to Edwards.

The views were stunning and the goats were rad, although dangerous from other accounts.

This was the perfect late season hike and I can’t wait to repeat another bigger loop of these two.

On your way down from Guanella pass, be sure to make a pitstop in Georgetown to enjoy some of the local spots.

Grab food from Roundabout, Mountainbuzz Cafe & Pizzeria, The Alpine Restaurant and Bar, or Pho Bay restaurant.

Stop by Guanella Pass Brewing or Cabin Creek Brewing.
