I became a member of the Colorado Mountain Club in 2015. After a few close calls and learned humility, I decided to invest in some skill development. The calendar trips were difficult to join due to red tape around classifications and pre-reqs. Luckily a friend was leading a trip to Argentine and Wilcox in October and she accepted my request to join!
Oops! We opted to meet at the trailhead and then hike with the group. Unfortunately we went to the wrong trailhead and we had no cell signal up the pass! We drove back down Guanella pass to leave a voicemail for Erin and let them know we went to the wrong side and would hike from there hopefully meeting them at the top.
After the logistical hiccup, we proceeded with the plan to hike Argentine Peak from Silver Dollar Trailhead. We were optimistic we might catch the group on the summit. As it turned out, we topped out long before the other group and didn’t overlap on the summit. We did leave them a note in the summit register in case they would see it!
Clouds rolled in early and the storm was brewing so we abandoned our plan to connect Wilcox and returned to the car instead.
Argentine from Silver Dollar is a beautiful hike and I loved that the summit sits on the Continental Divide Trail!
On your way down from Guanella pass, be sure to make a pitstop in Georgetown to enjoy some of the local spots.
Grab food from Roundabout, Mountainbuzz Cafe & Pizzeria, The Alpine Restaurant and Bar, or Pho Bay restaurant.
Stop by Guanella Pass Brewing or Cabin Creek Brewing.
