Little Italy Couloir

When I climbed Little Italy couloir for the first time it was a couch to couloir kind of year. I didn’t have a strong couloir season in 2019 as we were training for the Grand Teton with one of our friends, Bradley, at the time.

Little Italy was a quick option for the three of us to link up and get out for a quick morning objective. The caveat of Little Italy is the time the road opens for Pikes Peak. You basically can’t start until 9am, which is quite late for climbing couloirs and we had variable conditions that day.

The route itself is an easy climb that is accessible directly from the Pikes Peak roadway. Not much work goes into the approach or the climb, but it’s a fun outing. Conditions weren’t ideal, but they did hold out for us to get in a quick ascent and then a glissade back down to the base of the couloir. We only saw a couple skiers out that day.

Another successful couch to couloir objective for the books!
