In 2021, after COVID interruptions for nearly 3 years, our group of Advanced Crevasse Rescue instructors linked up to go to Saint Marys for a day of practice and refreshing skills in preparation for the upcoming course we were teaching.
I was also shadowing a friend and mentor to take over the course as he was moving on to new adventures. There are a lot of moving components in how we teach advanced crevasse rescue and a critical prerequisite is knowing and understanding the underlying 3:1 system thoroughly before taking this course.
We were treated with snow and basically whiteout conditions all day so we stayed on a lower angle slope area above the lake. We practiced all the steps together, each individually running through our systems. It was a gorgeous snowy day at Saint Marys and we enjoyed watching all the skiers heading up the hill. I even spotted my friend and a past climbing partner, Parker, heading up on his skis for a few laps!
The three of us enjoyed dialing in our skills and refreshing in preparation for our upcoming cohort. A lovely day at Saint Marys and great company!
