A good friend of ours is the engineer behind helping Lake City locals expand the ice park that was finished in 2021. The original expansion was delayed so once the official open happened we all flocked down to see the end result.

Several friends were already down in the area and we connected with a few others that would travel down to meet us. My partner and I made the trek from Denver and we all met up at the park deciding to climb in the new expansion zone. 

The routes were steep and lived up to some of the new names like “Pumpy Pressure” - you literally pumped out on several of these routes!

The sheer vertical wall is spectacular in nature and we had a great day chatting and laughing with friends, swapping belays and climbing the new park area!

After we grabbed drinks and snacks at Lake City Brewing catching up before we all showered and met up for family dinner. A wonderful weekend with close friends!

About the park:

Lake City is a smaller local ice park and doesn’t get as much attention as Ouray although it is drawing in more of a crowd now. Support the locals by grabbing a coffee and a burrito at the local breakfast cafe or stop by Lake City Brewing for snacks and beers.
