My partner’s cousins were visiting from El Salvador in 2019 and wanted to learn to ski as a first experience for them. We quickly bought a four pack including ski lessons for all four of us at Abasin Ski Resort. Ricardo, my partner, and I were still new to skiing and thought we could benefit from the lesson ourselves.
All the family pitched in to help with dressing them in proper layers, some newly bought and some borrowed so we made sure they were properly bundled. Coming from El Salvador not only was the cold bound to shock them, but the elevation and effects of being on the mountain would also play a role. That weekend was particularly cold with snow in the forecast and no sunshine in sight.
The gals did great and only experienced some mild altitude issues we were able to navigate through. They had a blast and worked pretty hard on the bunny hill even working their way up to taking the lift! I think they enjoyed the chair lift most and it was so fun to watch their joy and enthusiasm trying something new out of their comfort zones.
We had a great day bonding and learning to ski together on the bunny slopes before capping the day with local Mexican food in Keystone. They were pretty exhausted and quiet on the trip home, but we knew they had a great day!
