On our way out to Lake City with the dogs, a long drive from Denver, we decided to car camp and hike Huron to break up the drive. We crashed at the upper 4WD trailhead before hitting the trail well before sunrise. We took the standard route toward the summit.
We passed an awesome camp spot high inthe basin that a group had stayed at the night before. Would definitely return to camp here, the basin views were stellar!
A beautiful bluebird day with little wind served up stellar views and a warm day outing. We had most of the trail to ourselves until the summit where we stumbled on the group that had the camp spot in the basin. We swapped photos of one another and let the pups take in the views. This was Bella’s first 14er!
After a snack and good convo with the other group we headed back down to continue our journey to the San Juans. Huron is a relatively easy hike and I enjoyed the views it offered despite taking the standard route. We were lucky with very little traffic!
Buena Vista is quite possibly my favorite mountain town in the Sawatch range. The people, the culture and the vibe are all excellent. I always make a point to stop in BV, usually Eddyline my favorite brewery in Colorado. Highly recommend stopping or staying in Buena Vista.
Local spots: Simple Eatery & Spoon It Up, House Rock Kitchen, Eddyline Brewing.
