Quandary was a peak I chose to attempt my first spring route on. It was the earliest I had attempted a 14er at this point and my first time learning to turn around thanks to not studying the route carefully enough and getting off trail.
Newbies to 14ers at the time, especially with snow on the ground, we made some pretty basic mistakes that resulted in us making a call and returning to the car with our tails between our legs. A few weeks later we mustered the strength to return and try again, this time successfully hiking the east ridge without getting lost.
We were still rewarded with snow on the summit ridge, a first, and enjoying early season conditions. I think I was probably hooked to this notion of snow after this point. Probably for the challenge it presented and the harder you had to work for it.
Quandary is great and I love returning to this fun, although popular, peak! Tons of routes and fun to be had!
If you stop in Breckenridge, check out Broken Compass Brewing or Outer Range in Frisco.
