Mt Lindsey Direct Class 4 Ridge

I enjoyed many aspects of this hike from the valley approach to the technical scrambling section. The only thing I disliked was the steep loose gully in the standard route, especially on the descent. If I return I would downclimb the class 3 bypass or class 4 direct ridge we came up rather than the steep screen filled rubble gully.
The approach from Lily Lake trailhead is beautiful on a pleasant well established trail. Plenty of ample camping opportunities and endless views on this approach. Once you gain the saddle of Iron Nipple and Mount Lindsey the elevation is immediate. The route is fairly straightforward from this point and you can choose the class 3 bypass or direct line.
I took the direct class 4 ridge while my partner took the class 3 bypass just to the left of me. The views from the summit were breathtaking and we had the entire mountain and trail to ourselves that day.
We soaked in the views and then had some fun being entertained by marmots on the way down. I loved this peak and this area, aside from that gully, and can’t wait to come back when access is an option again!
There aren't a ton of accommodations near this trailhead, but some bigger towns on your way back if you head toward Westcliffe and Colorado Springs.
