Belford Oxford Saddle

In 2015 we decided to climb Oxford and Belford as another combo peak day. This time we hiked in to camp overnight and then summit the following morning. We trekked in with the pup and set up camp at one of several spots along the trail approaching the basin.
We had a lovely camp the night before and then started super early the following morning. Diezel, our dog, and I made our way up to the first summit just in time for sunrise. Next we headed over to Oxford dropping the infamous saddle that adds elevation loss and gain in both directions. Our early start had awarded us the first summit to ourselves and sunrise for breakfast.
On the summit of Oxford we only encountered one other party before we headed back to Belford and saw the congo line of people behind us. This was yet another confirmation that starting early is the way to go.
The wildflowers were popping in the basin as we made our way down and having not seen any in the dark hours of the morning. We made our way back to camp and then broke down to head back down to the car.
A great weekend out with the fam!
Buena Vista is quite possibly my favorite mountain town in the Sawatch range. The people, the culture and the vibe are all excellent. I always make a point to stop in BV, usually Eddyline my favorite brewery in Colorado. Highly recommend stopping or staying in Buena Vista.
Local spots: Simple Eatery & Spoon It Up, House Rock Kitchen, Eddyline Brewing.
