Solo
After a sunset hike up Handies the night before and meeting Killian Jornet on the summit, I took off for a solo adventure up Redcloud and Sunshine while my partner and the pups slept in.
The approach through the forest was on a well established trail, but the slope up Redcloud was loose and relentless. Maybe I was just tired from the day before. The basin was stunning, though, with excellent views. I was surprised at how far back into the basin you wind before gaining Redclouds Northeast ridge. I remember noting the basin as a place to come back and camp in.
The last push up Redcloud was a little slow going but I soaked in all the red rock views and surrounding peaks. After a snack and photos I set off to connect the ridge to Sunshine Peak. The cliff drop offs were impressively steep. The traverse itself was enjoyable with a small last push to the summit.
The impending weather rushed me off the summit after a quick break and several photos I made my way back over to Redcloud. The descent took longer than I thought, but I cruised through the forest section on a good trail.
A great solo day up these two beauties!
