New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins Colorado was a must visit place during my time at Colorado State University. Home of the original Tour de Fat, a quirky annual event celebrating beer and community with a fun costume bike ride followed by live music, games, food and other events, Fort Collins is the best but you can participate in cities nationwide.
I moved to Denver from Fort Collins after graduating from CSU. Shortly after New Belgium expanded their nationwide Tour de Fat city tours including Denver. My partner and I were stoked to relive our FoCo nostalgia with a fun day of riding bikes and celebrating the events in City Park.
Some of the first tours were the best, before the regulations started infringing on some of the usual shenanigans of the event. This particular year they closed down the streets for our pre-celebration ride allowing what seemed like thousands of all shapes and sizes of bikes and riders to take to the streets in costume. We all rode a big loop around the city in the downtown streets before making our way back to City Park.
This was one of the better Tour de Fat years in Denver, a freaking blast!
